Urangan is located at the very eastern extremity and gateway to the Great Sandy Straits Marine Park and Fraser Island’s western beaches. Originally known as the Port of Urangan, this suburb hosts Hervey Bay’s most iconic structures. The Urangan Pier built in 1917 and was connected to Maryborough by a railway to facilitate the export of sugar and coal. It is now primarily used by tourists and fishermen.

The foreshore offers high rise apartments, holiday rental units and lakeside homes. The suburb is in easy driving distance to the airport for fly in- fly out and is a popular destination for tourists. It is not hard to understand why this area has experienced some of the highest sales growth for the Fraser Coast region and offers a wide variety of housing in investment rental, owner occupied homes, active retirement living and holiday units.

The region has superb swimming beaches, a shopping center soon to be expanded, medical facilities and several schools including Urangan Point State School.

Urangan offers a well constructed marina which accommodates a significant commercial fishing fleet and rapidly growing sea going community. The marina mooring and ramp facilities are regarded as some of the best in QLD, and is home to the well known Boat Club and luxury accommodation Resorts.

Having lived in Urangan for about 5 years, I really love the beachy laid-back atmosphere. The beaches are very safe, the foreshore is always clean & tidy and with so many picnic & barBQ spots; it really is a great location for kids and a family lifestyle. We enjoy family walks; especially along the Espalnade bike/walking path and the Urangan Pier. There’s also a good selection of local shops, cafes, restaurants and business services very close by. I highly recommend Urangan as a great place to live.
