River Heads is situated just a short 18km drive from Hervey Bay, passing through the suburb of Booral. The last few kilometers of road travels parallel to Fraser Island making for some truly breathtaking scenic coastal views.

The town is built on a narrow peninsula surrounded by the Great Sandy Strait (to the east), the mouth of the Mary River (south) and the mouth of the Susan River (a tributary of the Mary) to the west.

The Fraser Venture and Kingfisher Bay barge depart daily from River Heads to Fraser Island with security parking available. Future plans include a large modern marina precinct. Currently the local shopping village features mostly village style shops and a cafe, or you can enjoy a picnic lunch or a barbecue at Progress Park.

River Heads is also a great spot for the avid angler with boat ramps suitable for launching a wide range of boats. There is also ample car parking provided for cars and trailers.
