It’s imperative that you do your homework and plan ahead of time, well before the weather turns hot, as air conditioning installers are usually very busy during peak times. Chances are during the height of summer, you won’t be able to just contact an installer and have an air conditioner fitting done straight away— there could be a really long wait, especially if the weather is extremely hot. Also keep in mind that air conditioner installation costs may increase during the height of summer and that portable air conditioners tend to sell out quickly as well.
Let’s assume that you’ve decided to have air con installed professionally; there are three common ways to get air conditioning units installed.
1. Air conditioning installers who can provide both supply and installation.
Pros: It’s a popular choice because it provides a ‘one-stop shop’ where everything is taken care of for you.
Cons: You might only be able to use a specific brand or type of air conditioner.
2. Purchase the item from a retailer that provides installation through a preferred supplier.
Pros: While much of the procedure is still handled for you, you now have greater freedom to shop for a better deal on your unit
Cons: You’ll still have to deal with the logistics of purchasing the device, having it delivered, and keeping it until it’s time to install it. You’ll be obligated to use the retailer’s preferred installer as well.
3. Purchase the item and arrange for your own installation.
Pros: Gives you the most options for finding a fair bargain on your unit and working with an installer of your choosing.
Cons: More study is required to identify the ideal unit and tradesperson. Before purchasing a unit, we recommend speaking to at least a couple of air condtioning installers and/or retailers.
Regardless of which way you choose to go, aim to get at least two to three quotes. Be sure to read the terms and conditions.
Be sure to check with the installer to see if they only work with particular brands and models.
The benefit of buying the air conditioner yourself is that you can look around for the best offer to save money— there are often some good deals to be discovered online. You will then need to find a reputable company or tradesperson that is licensed to install air conditioning. Keep in mind that availability can be a problem, especially during peak seasons, and some installers will refuse to install a product they haven’t supplied or a brand with which they aren’t familiar.
All-in-One Air-conditioning Vendors and Air Conditioning Installers:
You’ll find that many all-in-one air-conditioning vendors will only work with specific brands, although you still may be able to specify the brand or model you want if you ask.
Either Way Be Sure to Do Adequate Research
In order to make an informed decision, adequate research is vital not only regarding choosing an installer but also on how different brands perform. Be wary of air-conditioning models that appear to be too cheap as lower upfront expenses for air conditioners usually mean the model is less energy efficient meaning that you may end up spending more in power bills in the long term. Investing a little extra in a dependable, premium brand is generally a more cost effective decision.
