Welcome to Howard

The Suburb

The lovely historical township of Howard is nestled in the hinterland of Hervey Bay is about half an hour’s drive from Hervey Bay, 20 minutes to Toogoom and Burrum Heads and 15 minutes to Maryborough. It’s also serviced by the Tilt Train twice everyday.

Howard boasts several buildings of historical significance including a beautifully restored Queenslander that features guided tours and Devonshire Teas. The small museum showcases the farming and coal mining history of the region along with war memorabilia. There are delightful country markets on the first Saturday of each month in Steley Street.

There is also plans for future coal mining development in the area which will bring additional employment and general growth to the township.

What local residents have to say:

Close Enough to Town but Far Away Enough for Peace & Quiet!”

Howard is a great little town, that is conveniently close enough to the Maryborough and Hervey Bay to be convenient, but also far enough away for peace and quiet! It’s also a safe place to live. There’s two  small supermarkets for most things you need although it may be a bit expensive for a regular full shop. Torbanlea State School is just a short six minute drive and there is also a local small school as well.

The town has an awesome community spirit with a variety of activities hosted by the local community centre throughout the year including the Burrum Coal Discovery Festival. There isn’t much public transport around except for a bus that goes to Maryborough (not frequently though) and of course, the TiltTrain stops in at Howard Train Station which is handy.
